Traditionally, animal manures are burned for heating in Turkey. It is also used as soil conditioner which has adverse environmental effects. Although, the use of renewable energy sources in Turkey is very limited, the application studies on biogas production from animal manure are increasing. 25-30% of total animal manures produced in Turkey are composed of chicken manure. The works on biogas production from chicken manure are very limited in Turkey. In this paper, biogas production studies from chicken manure in Turkey and in the World are reviewed.

Hayvansal atıklar geleneksel olarak Türkiye'de yakılarak ısınma amaçlı kullanılmaktadır. Bunun yanında gübreamaçlı toprağa verilmekte, bu da çevre üzerinde olumsuz birçok etki yaratmaktadır. Ülkemizde yenilenebilir enerjikaynaklarının kullanımı hala yetersiz olmakla beraber, son yıllarda hayvansal atıklardan biyogaz üretimine yönelikuygulamalar artarak devam etmektedir. Bu gelişmelere rağmen Türkiye`de toplam hayvansal atıkların %25-30`unuoluşturan tavuk atıklarından biyogaz üretme ile ilgili uygulamalar sınırlı kalmaktadır. Bu makalede, Türkiye ve dünyada tavukatıklarından biyogaz üretilmesi çalışmaları özetlenmiştir
